Buy Local Campaigns Fuel Business

A 2011 survey by the Institute of Local Self-Reliance revealed that businesses which took part in "buy local" campaigns reported average gains in revenue more than twice that of ones that were not involved in these initiatives. The national survey gathered data from nearly three thousand businesses in all fifty states, so the evidence is strong that merchants who want to increase their visibility and sales can benefit from participating in the upcoming Shop Local Day.

Everyone Benefits

Studies by Civic Economics have shown that, for every $100 spent locally, up to $70 stays in the community through payroll, taxes and other expenditures. In turn, this money helps support schools, parks, and other community assets. As a result, everyone benefits.

Serious Shopping Requires the Right Shopping Bag

To encourage locals and visitors to participate in Shop Local Day, specially designed free shopping bags will be available at all Chesapeake Bank locations, at the Chamber office and at participating merchants. These stores will feature discounts and special offers as part of the promotion. Additionally, a number of merchants will continue discounts and special offers throughout the holiday season, so it will be advantageous to holiday shoppers to make return visits when shopping for gifts and seasonal products.

Participating Merchants to Display Window Decal

Look for "The Buck Stays Here" decal in store windows which indicates that a merchant is participating in this campaign. Patronizing these businesses will fuel the local economy, improving the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
