Kids Day in the Park
Location: York River State Park
Event Website

York River State Park is offering a variety of programs as part of National Kids to Parks Day. Self-guided Park Pack Backpacks are available at the park office. Guided programs include a 9:00 am to 12:00 noon Kids Fishing Fanatic Tournament, a 4:00 to 6:00 pm Pick Your Paddle guided canoe/kayak trip through Taskinas Creek, a 7:30 to 11:45 pm Astronomy program, and a 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm Canoeing with the Stars program. Meeting locations, fees, and reservation requirements vary depending on the program. Check the specific program listing on the Parks Events database for detailed information. Get outdoors!!

Kid's Fishing Fanatic Tournament
Location: York River State Park

Share outdoor fun and create memories on Woodstock Pond. Children 15 and under can catfch bass, bulegill, and crappie for prizes. Bring your own rod and reel. We have a limited amount of tackle and bait. Please call 566-3036 and make reservations.

Canoeing With the Stars
Canoes $13/person or $8/person (family 4+)
Location: York River State Park

Get away from the bright lights of the city and spend an evening with us looking at the night sky. For an added touch, we'll enjoy it from a canoe! Whether you're an expert on the stars and planets or a novice, you'll still enjoy this peaceful trip on the creek. One experienced canoeist per canoe required. Afterwards, enjoy seeing the stars up close with telescopes provided by the Virginia Peninsula Astronomy Club.

Macro-Invertegrates
Location: Williamsburg Botanical Garden

Virginia's Watershed Academy will conduct a hands-on macro-invertebrates class for children ages 8-12 at the Interpretive Center in Freedom Park. Children will learn what macro-invertebrates are, what their presence means in identifying healthy water and have experiences in locating and identifying them. The Savvy Gardener
Location: Williamsburg Botanical Garden

Members of the "Barrels and Bins" team, James City County/Williamsburg Master Gardeners will demonstrate how to build your own rain barrel and utilize the rain water for your garden. Learn how to make you own composter, and a "Do It Yourself" self-watering container. This educational program is for the "Savvy Gardener" who enjoys sustainable and environmentally friendly projects to grow health, delicious, fresh vegetables, herbs, and more. Williamsburg Farmers Market

In May the market overflows with lush spring flowers both cut and potted. The transition to summer produce is anticipated as strawberry season ends and raspberries ripen. Over 35 vendors to sell year-round items such as mushrooms, meats, seafood, cheese, honey, baked goods, jams & butters, peanuts, and chocolate. Knife sharpening services are also available. Chef presentations, master gardener exhibits and music add education and enjoyment to a market visit.

Millennium Falcon Arrival at Ripley's

Join Darth Vader and the members of the 501st Legion as we welcome the Millennium Falcon to the museum. We will be giving away great door prizes every half hour and a grand prize for the best child's costume. Everyone in costume will get free admission to the museum! Water Country USA opens May 19

Water Country USA opens May 19 as Virginia's largest waterpark opens for the 2012 season. Family Fun Fest

Costumed characters, live music by In Layman Terms, Touch-a-Truck, a petting zoo, the Fun Bus, dance and cheer performances and the This, That and a Laugh juggling show are just a few great features of the annual Family Fun Fest this Saturday, May 19 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Colonial Williamsburg Garden Tours

"Through the Garden Gate" gives guests the opportunity to venture through the gates to learn about the restored gardens, focusing on the historic documents and archaeological evidence used to create the Historic Area gardens. This walking tour begins at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays, March 26 - May 21 and June 4-11 and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays, March 31 - May 19 and June 2-16. The starting location of the garden tour is listed on the ticket. Tickets areavailable to Annual Pass and Good Neighbor members as well as Colonial Williamsburg Hotel Guest ticket holders.
