JOHN GORKA IN CONCERT AT WILLIAMSBURG LIBRARY THEATRE
$18 adults, $16 Friends of WRL and students and $10 for those under 17
Location: Williamsburg Library Theatre
Event Website

Rolling Stone calls him, “The leading singer/songwriter of the New Folk movement.” John Gorka's solid reputation rests on the great warmth of his mellow baritone and his live performances. Hear John Gorka on Friday, June 22 at 7:30 when he returns to the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland St., as part of the Dewey Decibel Concert Series. Call 259-4070 to reserve tickets and visit wrl.org to see videos of John. John Gorka’s songs are evocatively beautiful. There's an attractive intimacy not only in the small moments of which he sings, but also in the sincere way in which he presents them. John’s hummable acoustic music accompanies themes reflecting his troubadour’s heart: freedom, faith, the environment and social justice. Gorka’s forté is his lyrics; the wordplay makes you think while you’re tapping your feet. He sings about clever, slice of life situations and creates snapshot stories grounded in both poetry and reality.

American Furniture: From Virginia to Vermont
Location: DeWitt Wallace Museum
Event Website

This exhibition in the Elizabeth Ridgely and Miodrag Blagojevich Gallery highlights pieces from three regions: Eastern Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New England. While early furniture forms and styles from these areas were similar during the late 17th through the early 19th centuries, the interpretation and the popularity of designs varied due to differences in local economies, trade settlement patterns, and the religious and cultural backgrounds of the inhabitants. A section on painted furniture further demonstrates regional styles and decorative influences.
