Colonial Williamsburg Museums

  DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum – This museum is home to an extensive collection of American and British antiques. See furniture, metals, ceramics, glass, paintings, prints, firearms and textiles form the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries
  Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum – Colonial and Contemporary artists and craftspeople work outside the mainstream of academic art to record aspects of everyday life, making novel and effective use of the materials at hand.
  Basset Hall – A two story, 18th century frame house located on 585 acres of gardens and rolling woodlands, is a part of the story of the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg.
  Of special note:  The Museums of Colonial Williamsburg offer a special audio tour written and recorded by teenagers for teenagers called “Teen Takes: A New Angle on Art.” Museum curators augment the teens’ insights during the hour-long tour of 17 decorative arts and folk art pieces. The audio tour devices are available daily at the museum’s front desk in the museum lobby and are free to ticketed guests.

Carriage Ride in Colonial Williamsburg – $12.50 with pass, $20.00 without pass

When in Williamsburg, do as the colonists would do and take a carriage ride in the Historic Area. Carriage rides are approximately 15 minutes and give you an overview of what Colonial Williamsburg has to offer and an opportunity to ask the coachman any questions about the area. 1-800-HISTORY

 

The Original Ghosts of Williamsburg Candlelight Tour - $11.00

Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield - $10.00 (combined ticket)

  Historic Jamestowne:  With adult admission at $10 and ages 15 and under free, you can enjoy a wealth of activities in the 1st permanent English settlement in N. America.  Start at the Visitor Center with exhibits and an immersion theatre experience.  Take a walking tour with a park ranger through the New Towne area along the scenic James River.  Enjoy lunch at the Dale House with scenic views of the James River for miles.  Tour the Archaearium, which tells the story of James Fort through archaeology.  And don’t miss the Jamestown Glasshouse, saluting America’s first English industry of glassblowing in 1608.  Today you can watch costumed craftsman create period reproductions and contemporary pieces using tools and techniques similar to those of the 17th-century.  757-229-1733
  Yorktown Battlefield & Visitor Center:  Site of the decisive victory of the American Revolution.  Includes fortification and siege lines, Surrender Field and the Moore House, where negotiations for Cornwallis' surrender took place.  The National Park Service Visitor Center offers an orientation film, a museum featuring artifacts from the battle, including the original tents used by General Washington, and maps for a self-guided auto tour of the battlefield and a walking tour of the picturesque town of York. Main Street and its surrounding streets are lined with historic buildings, antique shops and galleries.  757-898-2410

Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center Combo Ticket - Adult - $19.25 Children (6-12) - $9.25

Through films, galleries, exhibits and living history interpretive areas, Jamestown Settlement traces the story of the English settlers who founded Jamestown and the Virginia Indians and African Americans who helped this first permanent English settlement in North America survive and thrive in early colonial times.  (888) 593-4682

The Yorktown Victory Center chronicles America’s evolution from colonial status to nationhood through film, thematic exhibits, and outdoor living history with costumed interpreters.  An outdoor exhibit walkway details events that led to American colonies to declare independence from Britain. The Muscarelle Museum of Art (at the College of William and Mary) – Regular Admission: $5.00;  Special Exhibitions: Additional $5.00

Showcases the college’s permanent collection, which has grown to more than 4,000 works of art from many cultures and historical eras. The Muscarelle also regularly features special exhibitions from around the world.  And you won’t want to miss the “world’s first solar painting,” which transforms the south façade of the Museum into a dramatic and innovative work of art when monumental tubes, filled with colored water, are lit from behind. The title, Sun Sonata, describes both the rhythmic pattern of colors visible at night and the function of the wall as a solar energy collection system by day.  museum@wm.edu

 

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum & 4-D Theatre - $20.00

Historic Triangle Shuttle - Free

Historic Triangle shuttle provides transportation from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center to both the nearby Jamestown and Yorktown sites. As you ride, enjoy the introductory audio program that describes the area’s rich natural and cultural history.  Operates March 16 - November 1, 2009.

Yorktown Trolley – Free

A service of York County, the trolley provides continuous service between the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center and the Yorktown Victory Center, with stops in the village at Riverwalk Landing, along the Yorktown waterfront.

 

Go Karts Plus - Free Admission, Pay as you Ride

Gear up for fun at Williamsburg’s premier family entertainment center featuring 4 exciting go-kart tracks.  Whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, GO-KARTS PLUS is a fabulous fun destination.  Individual tickets cost $1.50, Pay $25.00 for 20 Tickets and $50.00 for 50 tickets (savings of $25.00). Chickahominy Riverfront Park – Canoe/Kayak rental $6.00/hr. Fishing (free)

Come enjoy this 140-acre outdoor facility located on the Chickahominy River.  This site has an area for every member of your family.  Facilities include two outdoor swimming pools, boat ramp, fishing pier, camp sites, a small driving range, a pavilion, and a small store and access to the Virginia Capital Trail in December 2006.  Park hours are from sunrise to sunset daily.  The pool is open Memorial Day to Labor Day, weekends only until June 19.  (757) 258-5020

Market Days in the Greater Williamsburg Area
